PEACETIME JESSE ANNE MILLIGAN
. 2009 (This song is based on a true story of a returning soldier from Iraq, diagnosed with PTSD
. His name has been changed for confidentiality reasons).
When Jesse left the country, he was a free young man,
Till the war came down and dealt him its heavy hand.
Well three long years of strife have come and gone.
Now Peacetime Jesse’s tryin’ to make it home.
Vs.2
He lost a friend in battle, lost his innocence too.
Now he’s back in Kentucky and he don’t know what to do.
Jesse’s wife and family wonder where his heart has gone.
They pray that Peacetime Jesse soon will make it home.
(INSTRUMENTAL BREAK)
Vs. 3
He’s got a brand new baby, Jesse holds her tight.
They love the simple things like rockin’ in the night.
The baby cannot know the war Jesse’s known.
She’s just glad to have her peacetime Daddy home.
Chorus:
You’ve got to breath deep, you’re free now Jesse.
Hold your baby long into the night.
And feel the rockin’ gentle peacetime vibes now Jesse.
And know that everything is all gonna be alright.
BRIDGE: Oooh, Ooooh, Oooooh……..
Vs. 4
Well, Jesse only did what he was asked to do,
But war can shake the devil outta you.
He’s a hero with a broken heart of stone.
But now peacetime Jesse’s tryin’ to make it home.
Chorus: "You’ve got to breathe deep…."
End: And everything is all gonna be alright.
